HYDERABAD: The stand-off between the Telugu daily Andhra Jyoti and Madiga Reservation Samithi (MRPS) escalated on Tuesday night with the police swooping on the premises of the newspaper office at Jubilee Hills and arresting its editor and two journalists under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. But it was not before an hour that the police could take out the arrested journalists, with a cordon of pressmen from the newspaper and other sections of the press encircling the cops.

Goud gearing up to launch new party to fight for separate Telangana PDF Print E-mail
 
A day after quitting TDP, its number two leader T Devender Goud is gearing up for launching a political party to fight for separate Telangana state.

As a prelude to his new role, Goud has convened a meeting here on June 28 to take suggestions from Telangana intellectuals and all the organisations involved in the statehood movement.

Telugu comedian Mallikarjuna Rao dead PDF Print E-mail

Popular Telugu comedian Mallikarjuna Rao died at a private hospital here on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 56.

Rao, who was suffering from Leukemia, was admitted to the Apollo hospital in the city couple of days ago. He was put on ventilator support and the end came this morning.

Rao acted in over 370 films in a career spanning three decades and won praise for his performance in films like 'Ladies Tailor', 'Tammudu', 'Kanakamahalakshmi Dance Troupe', 'Hello Brother' and 'Aalapana'.
